Rahamel Hughes, born in Detroit but residing in Cleveland, Ohio since the age of 12, is a multifaceted artist with a passion for education and creativity. Specializing in felt and upcycled denim art, Rahamel also dabbles in poetry, children's stories, and professional illustration for children's books.
With a background in early childhood education, Rahamel specializes in creating curriculums, lesson plans, and educational materials for parents and educators. Additionally, Rahamel serves as an entrepreneur, providing during and after-school programming in libraries, local schools and community centers currently in Cleveland, Ohio.
Rahamel operated a performing arts studio in Youngstown, Ohio, where she taught children to put on plays, act, sing, and create stage craft. She is looking forward to putting on large plays open to the public in Cleveland, Ohio, and abroad. Rahamel's vision includes forming a troop to travel with, fostering creativity and expression in diverse communities.
As a mother, Rahamel inspires her daughter's artistic aspirations while advocating for education infused with love and motivation. Rahamel firmly believes that the most important thing one can do in life is to be a great role model for youth, teaching them to love themselves, each other, and the environment. Emphasizing the importance of being the change they want to see in the world, Rahamel encourages individuals to make a difference through generous acts and expressions of art.
Founder of FeltSmart StoryAlive, Rahamel's mobile workshops promote literacy, creative writing, and social-emotional learning, earning recognition such as the Martin Luther King Award for Unsung Heroes from the Cleveland Public Library in 2024. With an enthusiastic and whimsical personality, Rahamel is dedicated to teaching and engaging with youth of all ages in schools and organizations, believing in the transformative power of children to shape a brighter future.
